I've always loved to cook, but as I've gotten older, it's become more of a chore than hobby. My whole goal each day is to make a meal as conveniently as possible. If I can avoid turning on the oven or the stove—both of which are finicky; the former a coughing, cold beast and the latter raging hotter than hell—I will. My apartment's dinky toaster recently kicked the can, so I decided to give Instant Pot's 4-Slice InstantHeat Mini Air Fryer Toaster Oven ($120) a whirl. Here's my review after cooking everything from fish to toast and blondies.

How I Tested the InstantHeat Air Fryer Toaster Oven

Over the course of a month, I've used the air fryer toaster oven to cook various meals and desserts. That included Trader Joe's frozen food, fish and boxed blondies at varying temperatures. I wanted to get a sense of how the oven would perform on the settings my household most frequently uses: Air frying, baking, toasting and broiling. During testing, I evaluated the appliance on the PureWow100 scale, rating it for ease of use, versatility, aesthetics and value, for a score out of 100 points.

Tons of Functions in an Efficient, Compact Design

Consider this review me planting a flag in the sand. I don't think I'm going to turn my oven on again. Generally, I try to avoid it because it takes forever to heat up and is a major energy suck. The Instant Pot toaster requires no pre-heating (a major draw) and doesn't become a terrible heat vortex. While the glass viewing pane and top of the toaster will get hot, the sides are surprisingly cool to the touch when in operation.

My number one concern with kitchen appliances is space, given that I don't have any kitchen counters. The toaster oven managed to fit right into the space the old one occupied and deliver better results. I love this appliance because you can do a ton with it: Bake, broil, air fry, toast, roast and warm, plus a pizza setting. The temperature dial also goes up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. I also appreciated the versatile accessories—chrome rack and basket, square baking pan and crumb tray for easier cleaning.

From Blondies to Salmon, Everything Cooks Perfectly

In the past, I've tended to think of air fryers as single-use appliances, but InstantHeat Mini changed my mind. Of course, the air fryer function crisped my frozen French fries to perfection. As a french fry enthusiast and mild addict, it was thrilling to discover that I could load up on a giant $5 bag of frozen spuds at the supermarket instead of spending the equivalent for handful at a restaurant. It also performed well with frozen calamari and taquitos. But it was the baking and broiling functions that really hooked me.

My friend and I made a batch of ube brownies, which came out chewy with crispy edges. The six-inch pan is great for small gatherings and the dessert-for-one crowd, though we did end up baking in two batches. Then, I decided to start broiling salmon. Truthfully, I had major doubts about this, but I've shockingly cooked the best salmon of my life. The fish has always come out juicy and never overdone, which is something I normally struggle with. The heat also gave the salmon a lovely color. My only downside was that it didn't really crisp up, despite me placing the fish directly next to the heating element.

The Cons

There are two things I'd keep in mind if you're contemplating the InstantHeat Mini. First, the broiler isn't a great crisper (though the air frying and baking functions deliver). The second is minor but important. This toaster oven doesn't have a great center of gravity. When I open the door, a light press on the rim sends the whole appliance tipping forward. Meaning, don't set down a tray or try to do anything on top of the open door; the toaster will tip over.

Overall, I scored the 4-Slice InstantHeat Mini Air Fryer Toaster Oven 95/100 on the PureWow scale. It's modestly priced compared to other options on the market, while delivering sleek design, easy user interface and versatility in the kitchen. Because it doesn't generate a ton of heat, I've also got no qualms about using it in the summer, when normally I avoid cooking at all costs.

If I’m doing laundry, it better smell good. It makes the chore borderline enjoyable. But often, by the time clothes come out of the dryer, the scent is but a whisper of the luscious aroma I once sniffed when I poured in the detergent. It got me thinking: Could I strengthen the scent by adding a coordinating dryer sheet? Could I extend the scent layering trend to my laundry, pairing complementary fragrances for a more indulgent experience?

Since clothes need to be washed anyway, I got to work, testing all kinds of dryer sheets as I tumbled through load after load of clothes, linens and towels. Here are the brands—and fragrances—that made the cut.

How I Tested the Best-Smelling Dryer Sheets

After researching the top dryer sheet brands and taking in recommendations, I put ten types to the test, using each one at least three times. During that process, I recorded how strong their scent was out of the box, how much they lingered on clothing afterward and how well they softened and reduced static (as that is their primary job, after all). I tried them with various laundry detergents, including unscented varieties, to see how the scents stood out on their own versus how well they complemented—or amplified—detergent.

After all of this testing, there’s one thing I’ll note: Across the board, dryer sheets don’t add much of a lingering fragrance. They’re best paired with a detergent in the same scent, or paired with one that complements said scent, which is why I’ve included recommendations in the bullets below.

Until AI finds a way to tackle this task for us, hopefully this finds you with a more whimsical wash day. 

The Best-Smelling Dryer Sheets, Reviewed

Laundry Sauce is the Chanel No. 5 of laundry care. Their fragrance oils are top-notch; blends you’d expect from a fine perfume rather than a laundry pod, and their dryer sheets are no exception. While the scent throw is much milder in a dryer sheet than the pod, I recommend these as part of a complete laundry care system. First, Why Buy a Mattress Without Experiencing It?

In the old days, mattresses were mostly fabric-covered slabs of metal coil sold exclusively in showrooms, so that shoppers could lie down and test each mattress. That’s still a thing, however according to one bedding market analysis, in 2018, 45 percent of mattresses were purchased online. And more recently, there’s been an increase in sleep disturbances aka “covidsomnia”—as well as in increase in in-person mattress shopping complications— caused by COVID-19, which has only encouraged more online mattress sales.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve increasingly depended on a good mattress to really align and support my body to not only ease from a day of tensed shoulders and tech neck, but also to recover from physical exhaustion from taxing workouts. If you thought color drenching—aka painting your walls, trim and ceiling the same color—was a commitment, you haven’t seen anything yet. Tile drenching is a similar concept, only you apply the same tile to your floors and walls. It creates a more immersive experience, especially in a small space, like a bathroom. Suddenly, all that tile isn’t just functional (providing crucial water resistance); it’s statement-making, the 2026 iteration of a large-scale wallpaper in a powder room.

Then, the pendulum swung sharply in the other direction, as mid-century modern design called with dark wood accents. Now, we’re meeting somewhere in the middle, with Houzz finding medium wood tones on the rise, especially in kitchens.

You know how everyone you know suddenly got into perfume again? Well, they want their homes to smell good too, with scents that skew higher-end. Pura, the smart home diffuser, has partnered with Anthropologie, Studio McGee and luxe candle brands like Otherland and Brooklyn Candle Studio to offer sophisticated scents (like Santal Vanilla and Violet Fig) that don’t require you to light a wick.

Similarly, Canopy launched a humidifier in collaboration with Sephora that emits a Vanilla Noir aroma, described as a mix of “deep vanilla, soft florals and a trace of smoky suede.” Suddenly, clearing your sinuses seems almost…sexy?

So, why is the Little Green beloved by so many, including PureWow editors? First and foremost, it’s simple to use and comes with easy-to-follow instructions that take the guesswork out of stain removal. All you need to do is fill it with cleaner and water, turn it on and get to scrubbing and suctioning up stains in the blink of an eye.

Once the flowers arrived, testers were asked to follow the company’s instructions for care, taking a photo once they were unboxed and arranged. Three days later, they took another photo, and after five days, they shared their honest review of the arrangement, based on its value, quality, ease of setup/maintenance, longevity and beauty. 

In previous years, scent was a key consideration; however, given how subjective that is—and how dependent it is on the blooms you choose—it is noted within the review, where relevant, but no longer a factor in scoring. In its place, I have added ease of setup and maintenance, as that tends to be a bigger pain point when interviewing shoppers. (After all, if the flowers are beautiful but they require an hour of snipping and pruning to get them to look halfway decent, do they become more of a hassle than a gift?)

If you’re looking for gorgeous arrangements that feel ripped right out of a Pinterest moodboard, look no further. Farmgirl Flowers is known for its burlap-wrapped arrangements, but the brand also offers styles that come in vases, as well as wreaths. The brand’s attention to detail is top-notch, and its arrangements have consistently scored high over the years for their mix of high-quality blooms.

For Valentine's Day 2026, they really upped the ante, surveying 400 women across the country to uncover what they really want this February 14th. What's in? Colorful, mixed arrangements that feel personal and intentional, like "To Have and To Hold," a mix of roses, foliage and bitsy blooms (like alstroemeria and hypericum) that are arranged in a whimsical—but not overdone—heart shape.

“My first impression upon unwrapping was 'WOW.' The flowers were all so vibrant, especially the roses, and the surrounding foliage really filled it all out in the best way, giving it a just-picked-while-frolicking look,” says tester Stephanie Maida, PureWow senior commerce editor. “Love that there's an option to send just in the burlap bag (which is adorable and eco-friendly) but also that there's a nice quality vase you can add on to your order.”

A few petals had been bruised upon arrival—though understandable, given the winter storms in the Northeast—but after peeling them off, the arrangement looked lush and stayed that way for days.

You might eye-roll when you hear “easiest to unbox” as a testing criterion—until you consider how mangled flowers can get when you have to fight to get them out of their packaging. Plus, as one manager at an assisted living facility told us, all the zip ties some brands use to hold everything in place make them challenging to open for those with arthritis or limited mobility. That makes 1-800-Flowers a great pick. The arrangement is hand-delivered in a clear wrap, making it easy to unbox and enjoy right away.

Plus, after testing multiple styles over the years, I’ve been impressed by the brand’s reliability and consistency: It’s always arrived right on time, with hardly a petal damaged, whether delivered in the dead of winter or blazing-hot days of summer. (And the long-stem roses? Absolutely show-stopping. A neighbor saw them arrive and texted me the minute they hit my stoop to rave about them—and ensure they didn't spend an extra minute outside in the 22-degree weather.)

Don’t just take my word for it: “I thought the arrangement of roses, carnations, daisies and lavender was remarkably sophisticated (I had perhaps misjudged 1-800-flowers as mass) and the arrangement felt substantial and stunning,” says PureWow Editor-in-Chief Jillian Quint.

When it comes to attention-stealing arrangements, UrbanStems never disappoints. Its arrangements are modern, romantic and unfussy, without a bunch of filler. They’re also committed to making their bouquets match their images as closely as possible (though they do note that sometimes select flowers will be replaced due to their availability).

“I found the flowers to be quite pretty,” says tester Phil Mutz, PureWow vice president of news and entertainment. “The bouquet was very full, the flowers looked fresh and new, and they lasted a good four days before they started to show signs of deteriorating. And even then, a number of the flowers looked great, so I was able to toss the sad looking ones and keep the bright ones for several more days.”

Most arrangements are available in a classic (aka Single, in UrbanStems’s parlance) or Double size, though some—like The Unicorn—can be ordered in Triple size, for ultimate lushness. Just be forewarned: You might need a second (or third) vase to accommodate all those blooms.

It makes sense that a lifestyle brand known for its floral prints would sell actual flowers, but I was blown away by the massive size and quality of these blooms. They arrived wrapped in tissue paper, encased in a swirl of cardboard to protect the buds. This proved a little tricky to unwrap—I wound up beheading one stem in the process—but user error aside, it did a great job of protecting the roses, which opened up to be larger than my palm within a day.

Elegant and fragrant, they added a chic sophistication to my bar cart and filled my dining room with a light, rosy scent; not enough to distract from dinner, but just enough to brighten up a dreary January evening, when the sun sets before 5.

Add to that the ease of ordering through Amazon, and I'd say this is a stellar pick for Valentine's Day. (Just make sure you order a few days early, as these aren't Prime-overnight fast.)

5. Teleflora

Teleflora is another great option for fuss-free unboxing; its bouquets are made by local florists and delivered perfectly arranged in the vase. I loved that the flowers came with a note revealing the local shop that made them, and the personal delivery made them feel extra special. Those personal touches alone make them a great gift for office deliveries (no fighting to find scissors strong enough to trim the stems) and as sympathy gifts, when the last thing on anyone’s mind is rummaging for a vase and arranging blooms.

But that ease means little if the arrangement that arrives feels wilted, dated or just plain lackluster. You want to wow people, right? Thankfully, Teleflora delivers on that front too. Editors have tested it across multiple states over the years, and the local florists’ creations have consistently been in line with what you see on screen when you order.

6. Fresh Sends

Fresh Sends radically simplifies buying flowers—though control freaks may break out in hives upon hearing it. Rather than scroll dozens of arrangements, you’re presented with one option, known as The Send, in three sizes: Mini, which contains 10 blooms; Regular, which contains 15 to 18; and Full, which amounts to 24 to 27. The exact array of flowers changes regularly, based on what’s in season and available, and you won’t truly know what your recipient will get until it arrives. But that doesn’t mean they’ll get a bunch of carnations and baby’s breath—you can view previous arrangements on the brand’s Instagram, and in our deliveries, editors were blown away by the lush arrangement of roses, chrysanthemums, and berries. The arrangement lasted about five days before it started to wilt slightly.

Tester and PureWow contributor Destinee Scott appreciated the convenience, noting that the flowers were “beautiful” and stayed fresh “for about a week.”

“I loved the blue and white color scheme, and the combination of flowers (white roses, blue orchids),” she added. Since they don’t come in a box, she warns that you’ll want to give your giftee a heads up before submitting your order: “My biggest fear would be if I delivered them to someone who lives in a house, and they aren't home.”

“The flower arrangements were absolutely beautiful,” says tester Nicole Frazzini, former audience development strategist at Gallery Media Group. It takes a day or so for the blooms to open up, which is a good thing—it gives you plenty of time to fully enjoy the arrangement.

Unboxing can be a bit cumbersome, but what you receive is reliably well packaged and in great condition upon arrival.

While Olive & Cocoa also sells arrangements without a vase, the brand has become known for its very Joanna Gaines-worthy wooden vessels, where every stem is thoughtfully composed and secured within a moss-topped floral foam. It makes enjoying the flowers as simple as unboxing them—though Maida noted that it was a bit tricky to know which end was up when initially unwrapping them. Once opened, however, they were ready to enjoy, with minimal debris or packaging to deal with. The end result is elegant and fuss-free.

First, who knew you could buy variety packs of resealable bags, with compartments for each one? Second, check the dimensions of said box to ensure it can fit on the inner door of a kitchen cabinet. If so, order a pack and a paper towel rack, then hang the rack on the inside of the door. Punch a hole through the resealable bag box and hang it on the rack, so you have sandwich, gallon and snack bags within easy reach—without taking over an entire shelf.

When it comes to fashion, I have an Achilles’ heel: The tragic love and penchant for dry-clean-only clothes that wrinkle like crumpled tissue paper. Living in a New York City apartment doesn’t help—the question of having an ironing board is nonexistent. (Not that I have time to stand over one, anyway.) Thus, I’ve always relied on a steamer to prevent me from (mostly) looking like a pile of unfolded laundry.

If you’ve ever used one, you know that while handy, there are drawbacks. Namely, the lack of a surface to help press the clothing and the risk of burning yourself. (I’ve definitely done it.) That’s why the Neakasa Magic 1 vacuum steamer ($100; $85) caught my eye—gentle suction pulls the fabric to the surface of the iron, and I don’t have to risk a finger. Here’s my review after testing it on a variety of fabrics.

I used the steamer on several pieces of extremely wrinkled clothing: A Sézane cotton button-up, a Cynthia Rowley mini dress made of polyester satin and $790 (!) organic Clementine silk pajamas. My main concern was seeing whether the steamer could tackle synthetic and natural fabrics, including ones that were extremely fragile and irreplaceable. When evaluating, I used the PureWow100 scale, rating the steamer out of 20 points in five categories—ease of use, efficacy, design, ergonomics and value—for a total score out of 100.

The Setup Is Super Simple

Complicated gadgets are anathema to me because I can barely navigate a TV remote. Neakasa’s steamer is straightforward with two buttons. Long press the power button to turn it on; short press to pause the steam. The second button with a fan symbol activates the vacuum function.

Initially, I was hesitant. The vacuum function requires a plate surrounding the metal iron, which takes up quite a bit of surface area. In comparison with my previous steamer, the Magic 1 has a smaller surface area—about 3.75’’ across versus 5.5’’—and because of the vacuum, the actual hot plate is reduced to about 50 percent.

This did not, however, affect the efficacy. The vacuum gently suctioned the fabric so it made better contact with the steam, without pulling threads or scratching the more delicate silk. While nothing will beat actual ironing, after just one pass the wrinkles were reduced by about 95 percent, if not altogether.

The Cons

This isn’t even a real con. I found the water chamber’s capacity to be a bit dinky, though it was still more than my previous steamer. Honestly, most steamers could use larger water chambers, just so you’re not constantly refilling them, though that would certainly add to the device’s bulk.

You could probably steam one entire small garment (shirt, mini dress, etc.) with the Magic 1, but you’ll need to top it off for larger swaths of fabric.

Retailing at $100—though often on sale for $85—the Neakasa Magic 1 is a little bit pricier than run-of-the-mill steamers, like the PureWow reader-favorite Beautural steamer, which is under $30. It is more modestly priced, however, than other luxe options I’ve seen, retailing for $140+. The vacuum function is truly the unique and most valued selling point; it’s competitively priced for similar steamers.

Overall, if you’re short on time and space, and are, like me, tired of burning yourself, the Magic 1 vacuum steamer is convenient and intuitive. In fact, it’s so easy I’m tempted to steam my entire closet.

While she was initially apprehensive about the mattress’s degree of plushness (having usually preferred firmer beds), new mom Yohay was ultimately won over by the Midnight Luxe and its layers of cradling foam and supportive coils. “Though I’m convinced ‘good pregnancy sleep’ is an oxymoron, the Helix Midnight Luxe helped me get as close as possible to that elusive goal. With targeted memory foam, this mattress provided extra support across my shoulders and hips, relieving the pressure points that are often exacerbated by side sleeping—and even more so by pregnancy.”

As for those night sweats? Since Yohay opted for the GlacioTex cooling pillow top, her “internal thermostat [remained] at a steady, comfortable temperature.” (If you’re a real hot sleeper, you can also spring for the additional CoolForce layer, which is designed to pull more heat away from the body.)

All in all, Yohay finds that the Midnight Luxe offers the best of both worlds via its blend of high-density foam and individually wrapped steel coils, which, as a bonus, minimized motion transfer between her and her husband as they took turns getting up to feed their newborn. And she’s loving it more and more each day: “Like the break-in period on a new pair of shoes, I’m convinced this mattress got more comfortable over time. I’m officially a convert to the just right firmness of a medium feel mattress, and now I can’t imagine sleeping on anything else.”

Saatva Classic vs. Helix Midnight Luxe: Which Mattress Is Better?

Both mattresses offer the Goldilocks balance between softness and support thanks to their hybrid constructions, but there are pros and cons to each. While the Saatva Classic is more customizable when it comes to firmness levels, offering three options instead of a standard one, the Helix Midnight Luxe offers more in terms of cooling with its optional GlacioTex pillow top and CoolForce layer, so it’s a better choice for hot sleepers. The Helix also allows for the addition of an ErgoAlign layer, designed to target lower back pain.

If you’re a back or side sleeper, both the Saatva and Helix have you covered. If you tend to sleep on your stomach, though, consider the Saatva Classic in its firmest iteration—the medium feel of the Helix may not be best for you.

Though they’re on par comfort-wise, Saatva is the clear winner when it comes to convenience. Dickey raved about the white glove service that came with her Saatva Classic delivery, which involved free setup by a two-person team and the removal of her old mattress. Yohay, however, noted that she needed to tap her two brothers-in-law to lug her Helix up to her bedroom and help install it. Helix does offer in-home setup, but it’ll cost you another $219. Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, there’s the pricing. The Helix mattress (starting at $1,264 on sale) is slightly more expensive than the Saatva (starting at $1,099 on sale), and the additional upgrades just tick the cost higher.

Bottom line? Between the two of them, the best bed for you will depend on your sleep needs and budget—but you can be confident that either one will make for a great investment.

“I wanted [this area] to feel less like a catchall and more like a space that makes my daily routine easier by streamlining all my items with dedicated spots. I also wanted it to be beautiful—a place that genuinely inspires me to put my best foot forward when I’m getting ready each day. 1. It All Started with the Pax Storage System

The PAX wardrobe system has long been a household name and for a good reason—this customized solution is a wardrobe superhero. No matter what your needs (in Talia’s case, a place to hold all her latest trends and timeless treasures), the PAX options allow you to make them a reality. And what’s more, IKEA makes it easy for you to configure your own with their five-step system.

Next, shelves, clothes rails, drawers and other KOMPLEMENT interior organizers let you tailor your wardrobe to the clothes you wear and love. Talia was able to do just that, with a section for hanging tops and a pull-out hanger for pants. Drawers with glass fronts also make it easy for her to see sweaters and jeans at a quick glance.

Last, but not least: It’s all in the details. Knobs and handles make all the difference—transforming a simple PAX wardrobe into statement-making storage. And interior lighting, as well as the gorgeous STOCKHOLM pendant lamp, elevates the design (not to mention, makes your clothes easier to see).

2. A Bench Makes for Even More Storage

Beautifully concealed storage, we should say. The bench stands out with soft seating comfort and space-saving function. You can store things in the generous space under the seat that you want hidden and it automatically stays in the raised position so you can safely take things in and out. Talia opted to add a side table as a landing spot for her morning coffee or evening beverage while getting ready, making the spot a lovely focal point of the room. Complete your own space with an oriental-inspired rug in complementary colors.

3. Open Shelving Added a Place for Accessories

Open shelving is a classic home solution, creating clean lines and the flexibility of storage. The shelves Talia chose were the BERGSHULT / RAMSHULT coupled with the KVARNVIK storage boxes in various sizes. The set-up allows her to display her favorite shoes and handbags, while tucking away other items like scarves, sunglasses and belts.

“The built-in organization is the standout for me. Having designated zones for clothes, accessories and shoes makes the whole room feel tidy and put-together. The open shelving highlights my favorite purses and heels, while the PAX System doors conceal my clothing and seasonal storage. Altogether, it’s elevated and luxurious without sacrificing function,” says Talia.

4. And Last But Not Least, the Vanity

A complete vanity solution provides the perfect lighting and lots of storage to customize Talia’s routines. Talia opted for the LAGKAPTEN / ALEX desk with drawers on either side that make it easy to reach all of her essentials. Then she picked the BJÖRKBERGET swivel chair with a removable, washable cover—great for removing makeup stains.

“The space is now where I can get ready from top to toe: getting dressed, doing my hair and makeup, and choosing accessories,” says Talia. “I love that I can see all my belongings, quickly pull looks together, store seasonal items neatly, and actually enjoy the process of getting ready.”

For a while, it seemed Joanna Gaines's style would be frozen in time, forever tethered to the modern farmhouse aesthetic she made famous. Even as she pivoted from white shiplap, matte black trim and oversized wall clocks, the look seemed tattooed with her identity. It’s been a year for French style—from knockout French clothing brands appearing on best-dressed influencers to the viral French woman blurred lip, it’s all superbe. Danyuk sources goods for her boutiques during international buying trips, in 15 years of business, she knows what resonates with a U.S. market eager for a little French dressing. Here are her tips:

1. Table Setting = Something Old + Something New

“Our general rule of thumb is something old and something new.”  Danyuk says. “This year, we are using a gorgeous French soft linen tablecloth paired with our antique white and gold ‘Old Paris’ china, a garland of magnolia leaves down the middle and an antique cloche with a saint figure robed in green to act as our centerpiece.”

2. Decor Tends to the Natural and Rustic

“Typically people opt more for natural greenery and a heavy amount of lights rather than a gingerbread house or grinch aesthetic,” Dayuk says. Natural woodland creatures, mushrooms and so, so many birds decorate trees, tabletops and mantels around her shop.

"We have about 20 trees throughout the store so we theme each around the areas they are placed," she says. "For example, upstairs our altar is flanked by two towering trees adorned with mostly antique silver baubles, muted gold ex-votos and crowns, and black wax intaglios. In our kitchen area, we have a tree covered in deep purple, moss green and topaz reminiscent of autumnal feasting and golden hour light. For the bar area next to the whiskey glasses, we have a tree covered with glass pheasant ornaments, copper, tartan [and] other colors reminiscent of 'the hunt.'”

4. Embrace Tradition

"We've gone viral for this twice now, and these are some of our favorite findings!" Danyuk says about French fèves, the clay fashioned, hand-painted traditional French figurines she sources from Provence. "There are many examples of women in Provencal costume, folk tale characters and French nativity figures. Traditionally the ceramic baby Jesus figurine was hidden in the Galette de Rois (King Cake or Three Kings Cake) twelve days after Christmas to celebrate Epiphany, and whoever received the piece with the figurine hidden inside received a prize," she explains. Other ideas include fashioning jingle bells to a door for a cheery welcome and displaying an advent calendar of treats.

It's that time of year when every industry takes note of the past year and looks ahead, forecasting the dominant trends heading our way. From Spotify Wrapped to the various Colors of the Year, we're continually seeking meaning in everything we take in—and seeing how those trends could shape us (and our cultural climate).

After covering trend forecasting for 15 years, I've observed that the pendulum tends to swing between two themes: energizing or relaxing. It seems we're usually seeking a dopamine hit or a dose of comfort, which is what makes the 1-800-Flowers 2026 Plant of the Year and Flower of the Year choices so intriguing.

Delphinium, with its tall, tapering stems, has been named the Flower of the Year, and the famously low-maintenance Money Tree is the Plant of the Year.

If you just shrugged and said, "uh, OK," I wouldn't blame you. It's the symbolism behind the two that makes them stand out.

Maybe they're hedging their bets, but this year's picks hit both notes. "The delphinium lifts your eye upward; the Money Tree keeps you grounded," says Mallory Green, Floral Design Lead, at 1-800-Flowers.com. "One represents aspiration and hope, the other stability and tangible growth. Together, they capture the duality we're seeing in consumers—wanting to reach higher while staying rooted in what's real."

The Meaning Behind the Flower of the Year

Delphinium certainly strikes that hopeful, "onward and upward" tone, with its cool-toned blue and purple flowers—and the fact that it can grow up to six feet tall, depending on the variety. It's a perennial that attracts butterflies and hummingbirds when grown at home, and in a floral arrangement, it can add height and visual interest.

The 1-800-Flowers team cites the "calm luxury" movement as also being a source of inspiration behind this pick, as its blooms tend to feature mellow, soothing shades and the flower itself is often used in more contemporary arrangements, adding an "airy, sculptural quality" (which aligns very much with the language being used to describe Pantone's Color of the Year pick, Cloud Dancer).

The Meaning Behind the Plant of the Year

(And, admittedly, wants a cool-looking plants that's hard to kill, especially if you're the forgets-to-water type.)

It stands out for its braided trunk and glossy leaves, and it's long been considered a symbol of prosperity and harmony. "In feng shui, it's believed to attract positive energy, while its five-lobed leaves represent the five elements of balance," the 1-800-Flowers team noted. "The braided trunk design showcases how individual strength becomes more powerful when woven together."

The plant can grow up to six feet tall, if you repot it every two to three years, and while it is easy to care for, that's dependent on finding the right spot to house it, according to the New York Botanical Garden. Their advice? Aim for an area with bright, filtered light—some shade is OK—that's ideally between 65 and 85 degrees F.

Beyond its traditional symbolism, 1-800-Flowers also cited that its striking appearance fit in with the biophilic design movement that's been popular these past few years, encouraging people to bring nature indoors.

Let me start by saying: I’m a hot sleeper. As in, the kind of person who starts the night under a comforter and wakes up with hair plastered to my face like I’ve just escaped the desert. And yet, I still love the look of a Nancy Meyers bed: the billowy, overstuffed goose-down comforter, the cloud-like loft. Practically, however, every goose-down comforter I’ve owned has been a disaster. Too warm. Too heavy. Too many feathers poking through the shell and littering the rest of my bedding like dandruff.

So when I tested the Riley Down Alternative Comforter (in the All-Season density), I basically asked it to do the impossible: give me the look and loft of real down...without roasting me alive. Or shedding. Or clumping. Or turning into a sad pancake after two washes.

What is the Comforter Made Of?

The first thing I noticed—before I even climbed under it—was the shell. It’s made from 100 percent long-staple combed cotton percale, which is basically the gold standard of breathable bedding. (Percale has that crisp, matte finish you typically find in five-star hotels.) And because it’s made from cotton—not the plasticky microfiber shells you see on cheaper down alternatives—it naturally regulates heat. (More on that below.)

But it was the inside that really piqued my interest: a 100 percent hypoallergenic microfiber fill engineered to mimic the loft of real goose down. Not the stiff batting that creases into little ridges, but ultra-fine fibers that puff into a ~1.5-inch loft. It’s intentionally designed to look thick and fluffy—like you splurged on a real down insert—without the weight or the heat-trapping properties of actual feathers. And because there are no feathers, you avoid the downsides of down entirely: no quills poking through the shell, zero shedding across your duvet cover, and it won’t smell musty after months of consistent use. (This one’s washable, while down comforters usually require professional cleaning).

The recent temperature drop in New York has forced me into my annual conundrum: too cold to sleep without the heat on, but when I turn the thermostat up, I’m almost always awoken by a pool of sweat. Every year, I end up defeated by the comforter—I usually resort to sleeping under a coverlet in a sweatshirt and fuzzy socks. But I’m happy to report that this year will be different, thanks to the All-Season density of this comforter. I kept my thermostat at 68 degrees, and for the first time in years, I woke up neither shivering nor drenched. No sweating at 3 a.m. No fuzzy socks or extra layers needed.

The magic is in the materials. The percale cotton shell naturally ventilates heat, which most down alternatives (those with polyester shells) can’t do. The medium fill weight (34 ounces in the queen size) also offers a lofty, cloudlike look without the kind of goose-down insulation that traps body heat. It’s warm enough for winter, but breathable enough for summer. In fact, just to test it, I cranked my thermostat to 72 one night. I’ll admit there was some “one leg out, one leg in” action, but I never woke up feeling like I’d been in a sauna.

If you tend to sleep cold, however, I’d point you to the Extra Warm version instead. It has a higher fill weight (47 ounces in the queen), and it insulates more like a true down comforter. But for anyone like me—someone who overheats even in November—the All-Season density is the Goldilocks zone: fluffy enough to look luxe, breathable enough to sleep under without sweating.

What About Durability?

Again, the beauty of the comforter is that it’s machine-washable at home. Before sleeping on it, I washed it in a cold cycle, mild detergent, extra rinse. Then dried it on low with dryer balls. It took two full cycles (which is normal for anything this fluffy), and when it came out? Still crisp. Still full. Zero clumping. Zero shifting. Zero flattening. The box stitching held the fill exactly where it belonged. 

Add to that the fact that the double-stitched edges seem to be doing their job—I haven’t found any loose threads or weird fraying. After washing it, fluffing it, sleeping under it and letting my latest dog client jump onto it, the comforter still looks brand new. And that’s rare in this category. Most down alternatives show their quality after a single wash: limp corners, flat centers, mysterious lumps. But this one has kept its loft, the stitching still looks tight and the shell’s structure is still intact.

If I’m being picky, there are a few things worth flagging. First, the loft is slightly less fluffy than I’d hoped. It still has weight to it, yes, but it’s not in the same category as an ultra-puffed goose down comforter with 700 fill power. And of course it’s not cheap—this is an investment piece, similar to how much you’d spend on a genuine goose down comforter. Plus, because the shell is percale, it has that crisp, hotel-like feel that I personally love, but if your vibe is silky-sateen softness, it might read a little swishy at first (it does soften with use). The only practical downside is the washing/drying: it takes two full dryer cycles to get completely dry and fluffy again.

I asked this comforter to do what real goose down couldn’t: give me that luxe, cloudlike look—without cooking me through the night. And for the most part? It delivered. So when I stumbled across something called the ‘Cousins and Coworkers’ organizational method, I was intrigued. It is supposed to be a way to tame the clutter and answer that eternal question: Where the hell does this go? If your home looks anything like mine right now, keep reading.

What Is the Cousins and Coworkers Organization Method?

Coined by professional organizer Christen Fackler of iOrganize, this clever method groups items by relationship:

• Cousins: Things that are similar but not identical (think: a tube of mascara and a bottle of foundation).
• Coworkers: Things that work together, like a notebook and a pen.
• Family: Things that are the same—two hair clips, for example.

What’s refreshing is that there’s no right or wrong way to do it. In fact, the same item might belong in more than one group depending on what works for you. Take sunglasses: You could keep them next to their cousin, your reading glasses, or with their coworker, your purse. Either choice works—it’s about what makes the most sense for you.

My Experiment

To be honest, I could have picked a few spots in my house—the basement closet that’s overflowing with outgrown clothes, the attic with still-unopened moving boxes, the kitchen pantry that (no joke) still houses Halloween candy from two years ago… you get the idea.

But the area that haunts me daily is the desk corner in my bedroom. It’s where papers, lotions, kids’ crafts and rogue hair ties go to die. Every time I glance over, I feel stressed. And instead of working at my actual desk, I end up setting up shop at the dining room table.

But before you judge the “before” photo, let me just say that we moved into our house a year ago and had a baby four weeks later. Said baby slept in our room for five months. After that…well, I got tired. And stuck. And had no idea where to start.

Enter: the Cousins and Coworkers method. I recently gave myself one weekday morning to see if I could declutter and organize this particular disaster zone in my home.

I started grouping “cousins” together—creams and toiletries went to the bathroom, kids’ books and toys back to their rooms. Then came the “coworkers,” like notebooks with pens and a portable charger that found a new home in my purse.

Even items that first seemed like total strangers (what does one do with your kid’s first tooth? Or a car charger that won’t work in your car?) found a home when I thought about it methodically (the former went into a box with other childhood keepsakes and the latter on my neighborhood ‘buy nothing’ Facebook page). And then I kept at it for about another 30 minutes or so.

I can finally see my desk! And more importantly, sit at it. The Cousins and Coworkers method gave me direction when I usually spiral into indecision (“Does this passport photo go with the passports or with the photo albums?”).

But if I’m being honest, the biggest game-changer wasn’t just the system—it was taking the time to actually do the organizing. The method is a great tool, but the real magic formula is: you + time + motivation.

While some items were no-brainers to put away (all the random books lying around went to the bookshelf), others took a little more time. For example, I had some makeup samples lying around that I wanted to collect and gift to my kid’s babysitter. But that reminded me that I also had some other things for her in the basement, and so I got slightly sidetracked doing that (although, that did help get rid of some more clutter in my house so it’s kind of a win-win).

Still, I’d say that as far as organizing hacks go, this one’s smart, flexible and actually doable for real-life messy people like me.

I carried this trio of spreads (which come packaged in a fancy gift box or on their own for $36) home for Thanksgiving, where I walked around—tasting spoons in hand—allowing every dinner party guest to try them out.

What’s included: Meghan’s Raspberry, Orange Marmalade and Strawberry offerings, a mix of spreads from when As Ever first launched alongside some more recent varietals. (The orange marmalade debuted as part of a late-summer drop while the strawberry was originally part of a soft launch, sent exclusively to 50 of the Duchess of Sussex’s celeb friends.)

My royal review: As soon as I cracked each jar open for others—myself included—to indulge, I had regrets. Mainly, that I hadn’t ordered more of this totally giftable set. The packaging is quite luxe while guest after guest found themselves reaching to double dip. (I made them get a new spoon each time!) Each spread is one that you’ll want to savor, but they each also pair so beautifully with cheese and crackers, on toast, even with something sweet like vanilla ice cream. (Yes, I tried.)

2. As Ever Signature Candle No. 084

I burned this hand-poured scent over the course of a week for up to two hours at a time. The directions advise: “Allow the wax to fully melt across the surface on the first burn for a smooth, even glow each time you light your candle.” (Advice that I applied in order to avoid a tunnel effect at the center.)

What’s included: The scent is a mix of water lotus, sandalwood and California poppy that is delicate and earthy. The vessel that the candle comes in has some weight to it—and also makes for something that can be re-purposed easily when finished. I mostly love the naming convention Meghan used for this product: No 084 is a subtle nod to her birthday (August 4, 1981), which the As Ever website calls out.

My royal review: The price point of this new arrival initially caught me off guard—but a quick scan of hand-poured 8.5-ounce luxury candles in the marketplace shows that this is right in range. In fact, it’s on the lower end (many high-end offerings go for up to $500). That makes As Ever’s foray into the space rather reasonable. After testing, I’m a fan of this delicate scent. Of course, all fragrance is personal, so here, I’ll admit that I’m more partial to No. 519 (see below). But in terms of performance, this candle burns beautifully, looks elegant and is easy to maintain. (Definitely something that works as a coffee table centerpiece.)

3. As Ever Signature Candle No 519

Similar to the above, I followed Meghan’s instructions and let this burn to the edges on first use. I also tested over the course of a week with the longest burn time being a little over three hours.

What’s included: This candle—No. 519, which is a nod to Meghan and Prince Harry’s royal wedding date back on May 19, 2018—is a mix of Moroccan mint, cardamom and tea leaves. The Duchess of Sussex labels this as her brand’s “signature scent” on the box. It also feels decidedly more holiday.

My royal review: I fell in love with this scent which came wafting out before I even opened the box. It’s crisp and clean, but not to cloying. It’s described on the As Ever website as evoking “a day in the English countryside” or “a long walk in the garden.” I love the woodsy undertones (courtesy of the cardamom), but also the brightness of the mint. This is a candle that feels right for the season, but also something you could burn year-round.

4. As Ever Honey Duo Gift Box

Somehow, in my efforts to keep tabs on As Ever’s product drops, I’ve continually missed out on the honey, which tends to sell out as quickly as Meghan’s long-coveted flower sprinkles. (Both are now back in stock, but the jars of honey come in this giftable keepsake box, which offers two unique flavors that are different from her sage-infused harvest, sold individually.) As for trying it out? My 7-year-old happens to be obsessed with honey right now, courtesy of an in-school beekeeping demo, which made it the perfect time for a taste test.

What’s included: This two-jar gift set includes Meghan’s Wildflower and Orange Blossom honey, both 100 percent California-harvested.

My royal review: The wildflower honey skews a bit floral while the orange blossom is citrusy and fresh. This surprises me but the orange blossom is a favorite though the wildflower is delicious with my go-to breakfast of Greek yogurt and granola, too. I’ll add that my honey-loving 7-year-old (who also happens to be incredibly picky about food) loves the Wildflower honey so much that he’s eating it by the spoonful.

5. As Ever 2021 Vintage Napa Valley Brut

Over the summer, I tried Meghan’s rosé, but I was super intrigued by the addition of bubbly—but also thrilled at the timing with the holiday season. I had to find the right occasion to test it out, so I cracked it with friends who were visiting so that I had a range of opinions with a variety of palettes testing this one out.

What’s included: Available on its own, but also sold with a special wooden gift crate (for an extra $38), this crisp varietal is more citrusy than sweet. It’s crafted from a mix of Napa Valley pinot noir and chardonnay grapes that get rounded out with notes of green apple, citrus and white peach.

My royal review: The overall consensus was that everyone enjoyed Meghan’s brand of bubbly. It was light, effervescent and paired well with a series of hors d’oeuvres (mainly, cheese and crackers for the purposes of my taste test, but definitely a winning combo). Low-chroma greens are the clearest sign we’ve moved on from emerald’s glossy era. In the Christiane Lemieux space above, you can see how the walls sit in a smoky, in-between of moss with charcoal—a color that absorbs light instead of bouncing it back. And across the board, I’m seeing variations on this look: deep hunter greens with pale streaks (like Verde Alpi), moodier blue-greens with dramatic inky veining (think the Guatemalan marbles you’ve probably seen on chunky coffee tables) and lighter, clouded greens with milky movement. The beauty of this category is that you don’t need a full kitchen reno to get the effect—brands are translating it into everything from sculptural furniture to marble decor and lighting.

3. Verdigris Patina

Verdigris patina is the most unexpected detraction from emerald—a finish defined not by pigment but by oxidation. And while real verdigris patina shows up in porcelain and stone tiles, the look translates everywhere—backsplashes, hardware, even custom range hoods. The best part? You don’t have to commit to actual metal or renovation-level installs; artwork, rugs and wallpaper can mimic the same mineral depth and patina-soft texture.
